Nested JSON records need flattening before they land in a tabular store. Given a nested dict, return a flat dict whose keys are dot-joined paths to each leaf value.
Example: {"a": 1, "b": {"c": 2, "d": {"e": 3}}} → {"a": 1, "b.c": 2, "b.d.e": 3}. An empty dict returns {}.
